Hello! Heart in handWe’re the Humane Society of Central Illinois!

Welcome to the Humane Society of Central Illinois (HSCI)! We can tell we’ll be fast friends because if you’re here, you probably love animals as much as we do! But, allow us to tell you more about our organization.

Who we are

We’re a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit animal welfare organization, and we’ve been serving the Bloomington-Normal community and surrounding areas since 1984.  We care for, house, and provide adoption services for animals who are looking for their forever homes.

We help over 1,000 animals annually due to the support of individual donors and volunteers who dedicate countless hours to support our mission.

The Pet Adoption Center

We house and care for our pets at the Pet Adoption Center.

The space is designed so that each pet group has its own area. This makes it easy for guests to visit with them and, most importantly, creates as stress-free and healthy an environment for the pets as possible.

Exercise and play is important for our pets so we have large, grassy dog runs behind the building.  Visit our Facebook page for videos of our dogs getting their play on!

We’re right at the intersection of Fort Jesse Road and Towanda Avenue, making it easy for guests and volunteers to find us!

Growing up in Bloomington, my family has long been supporters of HSCI and rescue shelters in general, and we adopted two dogs from the Humane Society and a third from Best Friends Animal Society while on a family trip to volunteer at their shelter.

I have wanted to help support and grow this wonderful organization ever since, and I am excited to have the opportunity to continue to help the shelter grow and serve both the animals and the families of our community.

I currently have one dog, a corgi named Khaleesi.

I have been with HSCI since 1999 and on the board since 2006. I live in Minier, which is a farming community. I can truthfully say that after 23 years I still love working with the animals and the people at HSCI.

Supporting my community through volunteer work is an important part of who I am.

I also have a passion for the welfare of animals – so serving with HSCI is a natural fit. From volunteering at the shelter to assisting with fundraising events, I enjoy any opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals who have been abandoned, abused, or lost.

Over the years, I’ve been “rescued” by many furry family members. Today, I am blessed to have been rescued by our dog, Finn, but please don’t tell him he’s a dog 🙂

I am so excited to serve on the Board of HSCI! I am originally from Lincoln, IL and have lived in the Bloomington-Normal area for the last 3 years. Relocating back to the Bloomington-Normal area has allowed me to reconnect with our community. Animals have always been a passion of mine, and I am so excited to be able to make a direct impact on the animals in Central IL.

Along with volunteering, I enjoy spending my time with my long-haired, mini dachshund, Max! He is 1.5  years old and full of sass. He loves playing with toys and belly rubs. 🙂
