Skeeter
From Battery Acid to the Bed
Skeeter came to the Humane Society of Central Illinois as the victim of abuse. A horrid
person poured battery acid on Skeeter’s back to "discipline" him for simply being a young,
playful puppy! After emergency vet care and a long recuperation, Skeeter became available
for adoption.
Patty and her daughter occasionally volunteer at HSCI. Walking Skeeter for the first time one
evening, they were amazed at how gentle and trusting he was considering the trauma he had
recently been through. Something clicked between them and Patty knew she had to bring her
husband in to meet Skeeter.
Donnie was hesitant. Having just lost his beloved Lab, he wasn’t sure he was ready for another
dog. But, he relented because Patty seemed so sure this dog was special. Upon meeting
Skeeter and hearing about his abusive puppyhood, Donnie knew they had to bring him home and
give him a new life.
Skeeter’s favorite spot is Patty’s and Donnie’s bed. Even though they make the bed every day,
Skeeter scratches back the covers and makes himself at home, with his head on their pillows.
Patty says, "He makes such a mess. It looks like he’s had a slumber party! We love him
dearly, so all we can do is laugh."
Looks like you’ve found a great home, Skeeter!
