HSCI Hires New Shelter Manager

Humane Society of Central Illinois announces the hiring of DeEtte Gorrie as its new shelter manager. Gorrie is active in animal welfare and advocacy and has held numerous positions in the nonprofit sector. Most recently, she was in charge of recruiting, training, and scheduling the large volunteer base at Days End Farm Horse Rescue in Woodbine, Maryland near Washington DC.

A previous resident of Bloomington, Gorrie was a founding member and Director for Hearts at Home, a national nonprofit organization based in Bloomington.

Having relocated back to the area, she again lives in Bloomington with her husband Steve and their two children.

Mufasa Become a member today

Abandoned in a country field, Mufasa was blind and on his own. The glaucoma that damaged his eyesight caused a pressure so severe, his eyes would have to be removed.  HSCI’s mission is to find loving, forever homes for abused and unwanted pets. Mufasa sure fit that description!  Your donations matter to the nearly one thousand companion animals like Mufasa that we help every year. Read about HSCI's dedication to this special dog and how his life turned out.

Please help HSCI help the pets by becoming a member or renewing your membership in 2010. If you prefer to join online, visit our membership webpage, or you can print a membership form and mail it in!

Pet Sponsorship! Pet Sponsorship!

Would you like to help a homeless pet but cannot adopt a pet at this time? Or perhaps you cannot adopt another pet as the case may be for some of you. Through our online Pet Sponsorship program you can help us provide food, care, and housing for a pet while they wait for their forever loving home. Please visit the Pet Sponsorship webpage for details on how you can sponsor a pet.

A Different but Great Way to Help HSCI

HSCI, as you can imagine, involves quite a bit to run on a daily basis and care for so many wonderful pets. For the last two summers, Curb Appeal Lawncare provided mowing services to our side and front areas of the Pet Adoption Center. We very much appreciate their offer as it helps us greatly and increases our "curb appeal". We are looking for others to donate in-kind services. This helps us reduce our expenses, have consistency, and accomplish more. Some particular needs we have are:

  • Licensed Electrician
  • Licensed Plumber
  • Snow Removal / Salt (pet-friendly of course and able to grant access to feed/care pets)
If you can help in one of these areas, please email us. If you know someone who loves pets and have a talent, please share this request with them on our behalf. If you have a professional skill and/or service, let us know. Perhaps it is not an immediate need but may be useful later.

HSCI Email List

HSCI occasionally sends emails regarding upcoming events and other topics to members of the HSCI Email List. If you would like to be included on our email list, select add me to the list!  You can request to be removed from our list at any time if you no longer wish to receive any emails.

Are you on our email list and your email address has recently changed? If so, select update my email address if you would like to continue to receive our emails. Thanks!

Could you please help us?

Your membership is vital. It provides for the adoption of over 1,000 animals per year; a spay/neuter program that addresses the very heart of pet overpopulation; an active education program that teaches respect and compassion for all living creatures; and abuse and neglect investigation. HSCI does not receive any government aid and is totally dependent on your contributions. Without that support we cannot survive.
