Annual Membership Meeting

Friends Support Drive
Friends Support Drive During July and part of August, HSCI is conducting its eighth annual Friends Support Drive. This telephone campaign is being conducted to promote awareness and to generate much needed donations. Our Pet Adoption Center has been in existence for over ten years, yet many in the community do not know about us or confuse us with McLean County Animal Control. And, because we receive no government funding, we must depend on generous donors to continue the important service of protecting and caring for the abused and abandoned animals we receive every day. See the Calendar of Events for additional details.

Great Harvest Bread Company - Dog Days of Summer!

Throughout July the Great Harvest Bread Company is celebrating the Dog Days of Summer by donating $1 to the Humane Society for every bag of Fabulous Fidoughs Dog Treats they sell!  Treat your dog as you help one of our pets. Great Harvest Bread Company is located at 1704 Eastland Drive, Bloomington between Schnucks and Cub Foods. They are open Tuesdays - Saturdays.

Please visit our Calendar of Events for the entire list of events that are scheduled!

Leaving Your Pet In A Parked Car Can Be Deadly!

My Dog Is Cool Never leave your pet unattended in a parked car for any period of time. On a warm day, the temperature in a parked car can reach 160°F in a matter of minutes -- even with the car windows partially open. Your pet can quickly suffer brain damage or die from heatstroke or suffocation when trapped in high temperatures. For more information, visit these webpages. 2009 Marks the End of the Gas Chamber for Cats and Dogs in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (June 1, 2009) - The Humane Society of the United States (not affiliated with the Humane Society of Central Illinois), on behalf of its more than 448,000 supporters in Illinois, commends the state's General Assembly for passing legislation at the close of the session banning the use of carbon monoxide gas chambers in shelters and animal control facilities. The new law also bans the use of carbon monoxide gas as a form of euthanasia statewide, so puppy mills will no longer be able to use make-shift gas chambers using engine exhaust. Read more...

A Different but Great Way to Help HSCI

HSCI, as you can imagine, involves quite a bit to run on a daily basis and care for so many wonderful pets. For the last two summers, Curb Appeal Lawncare provided mowing services to our side and front areas of the Pet Adoption Center. We very much appreciate their offer as it helps us greatly and increases our "curb appeal". We are looking for others to donate in-kind services. This helps us reduce our expenses, have consistency, and accomplish more. Some particular needs we have are:

  • Licensed Electrician
  • Licensed Plumber
  • Snow Removal / Salt (pet-friendly of course and able to grant access to feed/care pets)
If you can help in one of these areas, please email us. If you know someone who loves pets and have a talent, please share this request with them on our behalf. If you have a professional skill and/or service, let us know. Perhaps it is not an immediate need but may be useful later.

HSCI Email List

HSCI occasionally sends emails regarding upcoming events and other topics to members of the HSCI Email List. If you would like to be included on our email list, select add me to the list!  You can request to be removed from our list at any time if you no longer wish to receive any emails.

Are you on our email list and your email address has recently changed? If so, select update my email address if you would like to continue to receive our emails. Thanks!

Could you please help us?

Your membership is vital. It provides for the adoption of over 1,000 animals per year; a spay/neuter program that addresses the very heart of pet overpopulation; an active education program that teaches respect and compassion for all living creatures; and abuse and neglect investigation. HSCI does not receive any government aid and is totally dependent on your contributions. Without that support we cannot survive.
