2009 Marks the End of the Gas Chamber for Cats and Dogs in Illinois
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (June 1, 2009) - The Humane Society of the United States (not affiliated with the Humane Society of Central Illinois), on behalf of its more than 448,000 supporters in Illinois, commends the state's General Assembly for passing legislation at the close of the session banning the use of carbon monoxide gas chambers in shelters and animal control facilities. The new law also bans the use of carbon monoxide gas as a form of euthanasia statewide, so puppy mills will no longer be able to use make-shift gas chambers using engine exhaust. Read more... |

pets. For the last two summers, Curb Appeal Lawncare provided mowing services to our side and
front areas of the Pet Adoption Center. We very much appreciate their
offer as it helps us greatly and increases our "curb appeal". We are looking for others to donate
in-kind services. This helps us reduce our expenses, have consistency, and accomplish more. Some
particular needs we have are:

Could you please help us?
Your membership is vital. It provides for the adoption of over 1,000 animals per year; a spay/neuter program that addresses the very heart of pet overpopulation; an active education program that teaches respect and compassion for all living creatures; and abuse and neglect investigation. HSCI does not receive any government aid and is totally dependent on your contributions. Without that support we cannot survive. |
