Adoptathon - May 2003
The annual Adoptathon event was held on Saturday May 3 at our Pet Adoption Center. HSCI participates in the national Adoptathon event to help promote adoption. HSCI invited several rescue groups to participate. HSCI works with many rescue groups in placing HSCI pets. We encourage adoption from us or rescue groups. Rescue groups often can provide adopters specific information regarding a breed's behavior or health issues. Also, many times they have a waiting list for adoption and can place a pet in a better-prepared home faster. For something new this year, we decided to offer a craft sale as part of our Adoptathon. As always, we had many items for pet lovers - including pillows, towels, decorations and more. New for HSCI were some gorgeous knitted winter scarves. |

Guardian Angel Bassett Rescue from Dwight proved to be a big hit with visitors. They brought many Bassets available for adoption or to foster. |

It looks like a dress rehearsal for the annual Basset Waddle Parade. |
| HSCI receives many purebred cats and dogs. It is not unusual at all for us to have a pug, dalmation, siamese cat, etc. Our pet population changes all the time. |

Peoria Greyhound Rescue is very active in Central Illinois. They rescue many greyhounds from the race tracks, often in Florida. |
| Greyhounds make great pets. They are known for their docile nature. |
|
|
Greyhounds sleep a lot, are very quiet and can have special diet needs. |
|
Outside, Great Pyrenees set up to enjoy the wonderful weather.
Here Cindy chats with visitors about the breed. |
