Family Video will began a Cutest Pet Photo Contest, a 50/50 Raffle, and a Supply Drive on Friday, August 20, and it will run through Saturday, September 11. So bring out a great photo of your pet! Tuesday, September 7, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Pet Adoption Center for new volunteers. This is your chance to learn about the variety of Volunteer Opportunities available and begin helping HSCI and our pets in a way which fits your interests and schedule. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or accompanied by a parent at training and each and every time for volunteering. Call our office at (309)451-1000 to sign-up to attend this or another session. Seating is limited. This orientation is full! |

Family Video is having an Adopt-A-Pet Day
on Saturday, September 11, from 2:00 - 6:00 pm. Family Video is located at 2210 N. Cottage Avenue in Bloomington. Some of our
adoptable pets will be with us. Receive a free movie rental coupon
if you donate to our cause or bring out something for our supply drive that we will be having until Saturday, September 11. If you would
like to bring out some supplies to help us out, please take a look at our pet supply wish list.

![]() Come and join us for a 5k Run/1 Mile Walk on Saturday, September 18 at White Oak Park! Registration will begin at 9:00 am and the healthy fun will begin at 10:00 am. Dogs are welcome but not mandatory! Please fill out the registration form by September 1 and mail in with payment of $25 to receive a t-shirt, bandana and sack lunch at the event. If you register on the day of the event, the entry fee is $30. If you are a participant or walker/runner, print the sponsor sheet. Serenity Medspa will be offering free massages before and after the race. Come help support the HSCI! This is a great way to get your business' name out in the public! During these meetings, we discuss our most recent events and upcoming events, a great way to meet those planning events and to sign up to volunteer. For people with allergies, or who find it emotionally hard to work with our animals, these groups are fantastic ways you can help HSCI out. Without events and publicity, the rest couldn't happen. |

8th Annual Pet Blessing at Epiphany Catholic Church
In honor of our beloved Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron Saint of Animals, Epiphany Catholic Church will be holding their 8th Annual Pet Blessing. A blessing of all animals by Msgr. Eric Powell will begin at 1:30 pm on the lawn in front of the music room (former preschool) at 1006 E. College Ave, Normal. Please arrive a few minutes early and be sure to either crate or leash your pets. During the service, your written personal prayers for pets living and deceased will be incensed to Heaven. Did you know that Monday, October 4 is World Animal Day? World Animal Day is a celebration of animals and their contribution to our lives. This international date encourages everybody interested in animals to express their love and concern for all creatures by doing something special in celebration of our relationship with the animal kingdom. This date is inclusive of domestic pets, farm animals, zoo animals, endangered species, just everybody! |

There are many good reasons to adopt a senior pet. Take a Second Look: Consider Adopting an Adult Cat or Dog. We usually have plenty of adult cats in our Adult Cat Room. Many of our adult cats are included on our Adoptable Cat webpage. Stop by our Pet Adoption Center to visit all of our adult pets. |

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week
Please remember our hard-working staff and volunteers during this designated week, November 7 - 13. Our adoption center would not be possible without the dedication of many. Being a non-profit, our staff is often underpaid and under-appreciated. They have a hard job. Please show your support this week with a note, a token of appreciation, or a donation. Another easy way to support us is by raving about our work and our animals to friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else. We need your support. |
