Our office staff and volunteers act as match-makers to find animals good homes. We always
have a long list of animals looking for homes, while our list of homes looking for animals
is often quite short.
Pet Adoption Center
At the heart of our operation is the Pet Adoption Center. This
10,000 square foot facility provides formerly-owned or abandoned pets with a second chance
to find a responsible home. Our staff and volunteers handle hundreds of animals each
year...some injured or lost, many simply discarded. We vaccinate, socialize and groom all
the animals in the Center.
Our staff take great pains to match adoptable animals with potential owners. Successful
placement is due, in part, to our adoption application process. This process helps us
determine that all animals are placed in appropriate, responsible, and permanent homes.
Through its Pet Adoption Center, the HSCI:
- Places almost 1000 animals with new owners each year.
- Has over a 80% adoption rate for adoptable animals.
- Vaccinates, socializes, and grooms all animals in our care.
- Spay / Neuter all dogs and cats prior to being placed on view.
- Microchipping all dogs and cats at the time of adoption.

Why do we ask so many questions?
- There is a 24-hour waiting period.
- Staff will contact you to clarify any questions on your application and to notify you
of your adoption status.
- When approved, applicants choose their new family member(s), sign the adoption contract, and
pay the adoption fee. See the Adoption Fee Table for a complete
list of adoption fees.
- Follow-up calls will be made to ensure success of the relationship and to provide early
intervention and assistance for any difficulties that may arise.
These procedures have been developed in the best interests of the animals and seek to provide
assurance that permanent, responsible homes will be obtained. Thank You for your understanding
and support.

To Place an Animal for Adoption
When a new home must be found for your pet, the Humane Society of Central Illinois can help, but only
if you give us enough time. There are simply more animals looking for homes than there are homes
looking for animals.
Call (309)451-1000 as soon as you have decided to find a new home for your pet. If there is space
available at the Pet Adoption Center, the animal may come in to the shelter.
